Smoked Whole Turkey
A great recipe for the big day.
Ingredients
- 1 whole turkey
- 1/2 cup All Purpose Rub
Wood
- plum, apple, or mesquite
Instructions
- Brine turkey (optional)
- Apply All Purpose Rub on the outside and under the skin (use less salt if brined)
- Place a few pats of butter under the skin
- Place some herbs under the skin (rosemary, thyme, sage)
- Leave turkey on counter while prepping smoker
- Preheat smoker to 225°F
- Cook until thermometer in breast reads 185-190°F
- Remove turkey from smoker and allow it to rest for 30 minutes before carving
Notes
- 7 hours for 22lbs
- for brine, use 1/4 cup salt for 1 quart water
